CYO Eligibility Guidelines

Posted by Aimee Schnee on Sep 30 2011 at 02:01PM PDT in 2011

We wanted to provide eligibility guidelines for participation of CYO Football Players in All Star Games that overlap our season. We have had ongoing conversations regarding this subject since our last meeting and are modifying our previous communicated position. This applies to the Little Quakers and any other such organizations. Here are the guidelines for our players to participate (please familiarize yourself as you have responsibilities in ensuring player safety).

1. Tryouts are permitted after 10/1 with a maximum of two tryouts. If a CYO Coach allows a player to try out for one of these teams, the CYO coach needs to sit out the interested party from contact drills during the next CYO team’s practice. For example: A boy from St Genevieve wants to participate in the Little Quakers. The Little Quakers have a tryout on Monday 10/5, then St. Genevieve needs to hold that player out of contact drills during their next practice (let’s say Tuesday 10/6). For every try out day, the CYO teams needs to place that player on restricted practice detail (non contact).

2. All Star Practices are to be non contact until 11/1. CYO Players are only permitted to wear uppers (helmets and should pads). After Nov. 1 there are no practice restrictions. We do ask all coaches to be mindful of contact drills.

3. All Star Games are not permitted to be played before Sunday Nov. 13th.

4. All Star Practices and Games must be finished by 12/16 as to not impact any players PIAA High School Eligibility

It is not our intent to restrict or deprive our players from participating with these organizations. We do understand that these organization provide special opportunities to our players. We are committed to protecting the safety of the players that we have been entrusted with. Hopefully, you will see these guidelines as such. We reserve the right to modify these guidelines in the future if necessary.

We wish all parties and our players nothing but the best.

Sincerely,

Chris McCune on behalf of the CYO Football Board

CYO Football League Commissioner
