LQ Super Bowl Pool 1 (of 2)

Yorktown, VA –
In the shadow of historic Yorktown Battlefield National Park under cloudy December skies, the Philadelphia Little Quakers defeated the PYFCO Elite All-Stars 23-13 at Bailey Field.

After a scoreless first quarter and despite a back-and-forth game plagued with penalties by both teams, the LQ prevailed with a complete team effort.

A stellar performance by QB Zach Faragelli, who led with his arm and legs, included an aerial TD strike of 42 yards to Chris Scruggs(2 rec., 48 yds., 1 carry for 2 yds.), a TD scamper of 12 yards and an extra point run salvaged from a high snap kick attempt. Faragelli finished with 116 passing yards(16 attempts,1 Int) and a team high 57 rushing yards(5.7 avg on 10 attempts).

Game captains Aidin Curran and Devon Miranda led the defense with Curran adding a team high 7 solo tackles and 5 assists while an inspirational Miranda added 5 solo tackles, 6 assists and a drive-killing sack.
Trent Jones(4 solo tackles, 2 TFL),Colton Anderson and Matt Connelly all had 3 solo tackles. Trey Bagby had one solo tackle and two assists. Brian Moore impressed with smothering blocks, including 2 pancakes.

Thomas Gontz(3 solo tackles)had two critical pass breakups and Kyle Allmond and Brandon Lockley also added one each. Lockley came up with the sole LQ interception and Daniel Greenwood recovered a designed short Kick Off.

Brady Martin returned a punt for 25 yards shaking off 4 tacklers as he weaved his way to the 2 yd. line to set up a Greenwood 2yd. paydirt punch TD.

Scruggs added a nifty KO return for 22 yds., nearly breaking it for the end zone.

Kayan Billups gained 21 tough yards on 11 carries and Greenwood sliced his way to 39 yards on 10 carries, all in the second half, most with second effort positive yardage.

Jack Durkin had 4 receptions for 36 yds. and 12 yards on 4 carries. Brendan Flaherty had a 7 yd reception for a critical first down.

Matt Furda contributed 4 pts. on 2 PAT kicks, a 25 yd. punt and a 24 yd. reception to set up the game’s opening TD.
Matt Ortega had one pass for 1 yd.

The LQ finished with 14 first downs and 10 team tackles. Fan support was the strongest in years as many parents traveled to cheer on the team.
Game captains included Colton Anderson, Chris Scruggs, Brian Moore, Aidin Curran and Devon Miranda.

The LQ complete this season with an all-time record of 252-40-7 that directs them toward next year’s much anticipated 70th Anniversary season . President Bob Rosania says it promises to be one of the most celebrated in its long history of youth football excellence.

Tuesday, November 16th practice: We will be watching Sunday’s game film tonight at the beginning of practice. All players should report to the practice field with shoulder pads and helmet in hand wearing sneakers promptly by 6:55 pm. Each player is required to wear a mask to enter the Graham Athletic & Wellness Center to watch. Due to Covid restrictions, parents will not be permitted in the facility.

The Team will watch films until 7:45 pm, then return to the practice field until 8:30 pm. Players should have their cleats for the outdoor portion of practice.

Practice- TODAY Tuesday, Oct. 26

LQ Players,

The weather forecast anticipates rain tonight, Tuesday Oct. 26. The LQs practice rain or shine. Please report to Perrott Field by 7:00 pm for direction. In case we need to move practice inside the Graham Athletic & Wellness Center (new building left of the Clock Tower), please bring sneakers & a mask. Due to the school’s COVID restrictions, parents will not be permitted inside the building during practice. Thank you for your time and cooperation.
